Over 200 guests attended Emory’s Institute of African Studies fashion show February 3 entitled Tusaidiane Wafaulu (Kiswahili for Let’s Help Them Succeed).

Held at Emory’s Winship Ballroom, the purpose of the event was to raise funds for PATHWAYS Leadership for Progress, a non-profit organization that provides university scholarships and leadership training to disadvantaged youth in developing countries. This year's event focused on Kenya.

Opening remarks were given by Emeritus Professor Eugene Gangarosa, and welcoming remarks were made by the Association of Kenyan Professionals of Atlanta President Jean Adero.

The event included a wide selection of African foods, a fashion show representing East, West and North Africa, a dance performance by the Mahadi Performers of Emory’s African Student Association, and an auction that included African art, attire, and jewelry .

“I am very grateful to the Emory community tonight. Thanks to Emory, we have raised over $2,500 in scholarships, which translates to three Kenyan students having an opportunity [that they might not ever have] to go to university,” said Deborah Gust, president of PATHWAYS.
