As the diplomatic front office for Emory’s president and provost, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) publishes international communications for Emory via the web and the magazine Emory in the World. OIA promotes international outreach through events and programs, such as the Fulbright Program, and is responsible for coordinating key international policies.
Under the leadership of the vice provost for International Affairs, OIA works in partnership with deans and directors of international units and faculty champions in all nine of Emory’s schools to develop and support international initiatives and strategic planning.
Two interdisciplinary university-wide institutes, The Claus M. Halle Institute for Global Learning and the Institute of Human Rights, are administered by OIA. Emory’s International Student and Scholar Programs (ISSP) is also under the OIA umbrella.

Governance
The Vice Provost for International Affairs chairs two committees devoted to the coordination and integration of internationalization activities across campus:

The International Affairs Council (IAC) grounds university-wide international planning in faculty expertise and advice. The IAC is made up of faculty champions of international from each unit. The IAC and its members are involved in the strategic planning for international and the implementation of strategic goals. |

The Coordinating Committee for University Internationalization (CCUI) brings together those directly responsible for welcoming international visitors to campus and for running Emory University’s programs abroad. Recent activities of the CCUI have included: information-gathering on international linkages and activities in each unit; formation of a task force to track social security regulations affecting internationals visitors; task forces on China, Korea, and Turkey; providing briefings to the president and top administrators for international travel, initiatives, and visiting delegations; serving as a clearinghouse for information affecting international visitors and programs; and gathering feedback and monitoring to ensure an excellent experience for international scholars, students and visitors at Emory. |

International Policies
OIA coordinated the development of a travel and safety policy for the University and administers the University’s Cuba license.

Emory and Fulbright
OIA promotes the Fulbright Program on campus generally through information distribution, Fulbright faculty workshops, and by maintaining a webpage devoted to the celebration of Emory Fulbrighters.
International Awards
OIA administers two major international awards. The Marion V. Creekmore Award for Internationalization is given annually to a faculty member who has substantially contributed to the University’s international engagement. The Sheth Distinguished International Alumni Award honors Emory’s international alumni who have gone on to achieve prominence in their careers.
