Welcome from Vice Provost for International Affairs

Emory University is committed to preparing global citizens and working in partnership and cooperation for positive transformation in the world.

Nearly half of all Emory undergraduates have had a study abroad experience by the time they graduate. These intensive learning experiences include research in high-tech science labs around the world, contemplative studies with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Buddhist community in India, and field work on development projects in some of the world’s poorest countries. Faculty and students in Emory’s graduate school in arts and sciences and professional schools in the fields of public health, nursing, medicine, theology, law and business are engaged in a wide variety of international research and teaching.

This year, Emory University welcomes more than 2,800 scholars and students from more than 123 countries. Located in Atlanta with Emory entities such as The Carter Center, and with the neighboring Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and non-governmental organizations such as CARE, Emory has a unique ability to connect students and research to international communities and organizations. Atlanta ranks fourth in the U.S. for Fortune 500 companies and in 2004 was designated by the United Nations (UN) as one of twelve world centers, and the only one in North America, for the UN’s new training program for political and civil society leaders.

We hope that you will take some time to browse these pages and explore “Emory in the World.”
